Since 2023 most fluorescent lamps, including the common T8 and T5 tubes and pin-based compact fluorescents, can no longer be placed on the market in Great Britain. Existing lamps can still be used, but replacements are getting harder to find and more expensive.
Why upgrade now
- Running costs: LED fittings typically use a fraction of the energy of the fluorescent fittings they replace.
- Maintenance: LED lasts far longer, so fewer lamp changes and less access equipment.
- Supply: avoid being caught without spares when tubes fail.
- Better light: no flicker and more even light for offices and classrooms.
Plan it properly
A good upgrade starts with a survey of existing fittings, light levels and circuits. From there you can choose between replacing whole fittings or retrofitting, and add presence detection or daylight dimming where it saves the most.
Don't forget emergency lighting
Many fluorescent fittings double as emergency lights. Replacements must keep the same emergency coverage and be tested once installed.
Minimise disruption
We phase upgrades floor by floor or work out of hours and during school holidays, so the building stays in use while the work is done.
