VRF replacement with split systems, secondary school in Bedfordshire
Three ageing VRF systems replaced with nine twin-split air conditioning systems, complete with new containment and electrical supplies, over the school holidays.
Project overview
Replacement of end-of-life variable refrigerant flow air conditioning at a secondary school, delivered for its facilities management provider.
SCOPE
Remove three obsolete VRF systems, design and install replacement split systems serving the same spaces, and provide the new containment and electrical supplies they needed.
WHAT WE DID
We decommissioned and recovered refrigerant from the old systems, installed nine Mitsubishi Electric twin-split systems with new pipework and containment, ran new supplies from the distribution boards and commissioned every unit before the start of term. Choosing splits over a like-for-like VRF gave the school simpler, more resilient systems with no single point of failure.
OUTCOME
Comfortable classrooms and offices from the first day of term, with equipment that is cheaper to maintain and easy to service room by room.
