Engineer checking components in a control panel

Mechanical

BMS and control panel validation, crown court in east London

A specialist validation of outdated boiler room control panels at a busy crown court, with clear recommendations for a safe upgrade.

Project overview

A two-day validation of the building management system and local control panels in the boiler room of a crown court, delivered for its facilities management provider.

SCOPE

Inspect, test and document the condition of the plant room control panels and marshalling boxes, identify safety and compliance deficiencies, and set out a route to a compliant installation.

WHAT WE DID

Working with our controls specialist, we surveyed the panels and traced what each still controlled, from the supply and extract fans serving the courtrooms and kitchen to the supplies feeding the new boiler panel and first-floor plant. We recorded exposed terminals, decommissioned circuits and fans that could not be safely re-energised, and produced a report with a recommended new distribution board and control panel arrangement.

OUTCOME

The client has a documented picture of a plant room that had been unclear for years, and a costed path to replace unsafe panels without losing control of the ventilation that keeps the courts running.
